Adobe, known for its popular editing applications like Photoshop, Lightroom, and Premiere, has been working on ways to optimize workflows for creatives using generative AI. At Adobe MAX, the company’s annual creative conference, they unveiled Project Fast Fill for video editing. This new feature allows users to make quick edits to their videos by simply entering text prompts. Users can remove or add objects, change background elements, and perform other tasks that would typically require intense editing. Project Fast Fill utilizes Adobe’s Generative Fill technology to bring generative AI capabilities to video editing applications.
During the event, Adobe presented demos showcasing the potential uses of Project Fast Fill. In one example, Adobe research engineer Gabriel Huang demonstrated how the tool can cleanly remove people from the background of a video. In another example, Huang added a tie to a man walking towards the camera by inputting the text prompt “tie” into Generative Fill. In both instances, Generative Fill generated four different video results, allowing Huang to choose the best one for the final product.
What sets Project Fast Fill apart is its ability to automatically apply edits to all frames of a video, similar to how edits are made to a photo. The tool also adjusts for lighting changes, shadows, and the movement of objects. However, as this was just a sneak peek, there is no information on when Project Fast Fill will be available. Adobe describes these sneak peeks as “cutting-edge, experimental technologies that could someday become features in Adobe products.”
This development in generative AI for video editing is a significant advancement for Adobe and its users. It streamlines the editing process, making it faster and more accessible for video editors. With Project Fast Fill, video editors can achieve professional-looking edits with just a few simple text prompts. As Adobe continues to innovate in this space, we can expect more exciting developments that push the boundaries of what is possible with generative AI in the world of creative content creation.
