OpenAI CEO: Embracing Microsoft’s Sales Success and Mutual Satisfaction

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has stated that the company’s partnership with Microsoft has no fixed definition of who is leading or handling enterprise AI sales. Altman emphasized that both companies are focused on achieving shared success and have designed their relationship accordingly. He mentioned that Microsoft can sell to customers who prefer working within the Azure portal, while some customers prefer working directly with OpenAI. Altman emphasized that both options are satisfactory for all parties involved.

During his keynote address at OpenAI’s developer conference, Altman was joined onstage by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. When Altman jokingly asked Nadella how Microsoft was thinking about the partnership, Nadella responded by praising the collaboration and stating that it has significantly impacted Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing service. He expressed that Microsoft’s goal is to provide the best system for building AI models and highlighted the shared mission of empowering every person in every organization to achieve more.

Altman expressed his excitement about building artificial general intelligence (AGI) together with Microsoft, referring to the concept of computers that can match human thought capabilities. He also mentioned that over 2 million developers are working with OpenAI’s code, and 92% of Fortune 500 companies are using the company’s technology.

During the press conference, OpenAI’s CTO, Mira Murati, provided examples of business applications for their technology, including financial services, legal applications, and education apps. Murati described OpenAI’s technology as a valuable collaborator that assists in the initial steps of work.

Overall, the partnership between OpenAI and Microsoft is characterized by a shared commitment to success and a focus on empowering organizations with AI capabilities. The collaboration has already had a significant impact on Microsoft’s Azure service, and both companies are excited about the potential for building AGI together. OpenAI’s technology is being utilized by a wide range of industries, demonstrating its versatility and value as a collaborative tool.
