Opera’s Aria AI and ChatGPT: A Powerful Combination for Web Browsing and Research
By [Your Name]
Opera has become my go-to web browser for several reasons. One of the main factors behind this shift from Firefox was Opera’s Workspaces, which offers the best tab management on the market. Recently, I also started using Opera’s Aria AI option for more efficient research. However, I have also added ChatGPT into the mix, as sometimes two voices are better than one.
Before I delve into the details, let me clarify my stance on AI. I only use AI for research purposes and never as a crutch for my writing. As a professional writer, I prefer to rely on my own skills and creativity. With that said, let me show you how easy it is to add ChatGPT to Opera.
One of the reasons I appreciate Opera’s implementation of ChatGPT is that there is no need to install an API key or go through any other complicated setup process. Using ChatGPT with Opera is as straightforward as it gets. You do need to sign up for an OpenAI account, but that’s about it. I signed up using my Google account, and it was a quick and hassle-free process.

To add ChatGPT to Opera, all you need is the latest version of the browser. It works seamlessly on Linux, MacOS, and Windows, so your choice of desktop operating system doesn’t matter. I will demonstrate the process on my default Ubuntu Budgie Linux desktop OS.
One of the reasons I prefer Opera’s take on ChatGPT for Linux is that even the command-line version of ChatGPT can be unreliable. With Opera, it took me just thirty seconds to start using ChatGPT. Here’s how you can do it too:
1. Open Opera’s Settings window by clicking the Opera menu and selecting Settings or by typing opera:settings in the address bar.
2. Scroll down and expand the Advanced options.
3. Keep scrolling until you see AI Services. In that section, you’ll find ChatGPT in the Sidebar.
4. Click the On/Off slider to enable ChatGPT. You can enable other AI services as well if you wish.
After enabling ChatGPT, you will see a ChatGPT icon in the Opera sidebar. Click on it and then click “Login In.” You can log in using your OpenAI credentials or your Google account. Once signed in, you can start querying ChatGPT right away.
The sidebar provides you with a prompt where you can type in your query, and ChatGPT will respond almost immediately. When a chat is complete, you can copy it to your clipboard and rate it with a thumbs up or down.
Your queries are saved, allowing you to quickly access them later. Open the ChatGPT sidebar and click the two horizontal line icon at the top left. It’s important to note that if you want to save chats for easier reference, you should start a new chat for each query. Otherwise, it will be like a diary of your day’s chats.
There is one minor frustration I discovered with the Opera ChatGPT. Although all chats are supposed to be archived and visible when you expand the sidebar, you have to manually refresh the list by clicking the circle icon near the top right edge of the ChatGPT sidebar. Once refreshed, you will see all your chats archived.
If you want to share a chat, expand the ChatGPT sidebar and click the double-horizontal line icon near the top right. Select the chat you want to share, and it will open. Re-expand the sidebar, and you will see a menu button for that chat. Click on the menu button and then select “Share.” You can copy the link for the chat and share it as needed.
Although Opera’s ChatGPT can be a bit fiddly at times, it is still better than many other options available. When choosing between Aria and ChatGPT, consider your browser usage. If you primarily use Opera on all your devices, stick with Aria. It allows you to access your chats from any browser instance signed in to your Opera account. On the other hand, if you switch between browsers, ChatGPT is the way to go. You can access your chats from the chat.openai.com address.
Opera’s integration of Aria AI and ChatGPT offers a powerful combination for web browsing and research. Whether you are a professional writer or a curious individual, these AI tools can enhance your online experience. Give them a try and see how they can assist you in your daily tasks.
