Discover the Ultimate Spot for Your Robot Cat: The Library

Robot Cats Bring Comfort and Companionship to Libraries

In a surprising turn of events, robot cats have become a popular addition to libraries across America. These lifelike feline companions are bringing comfort and companionship to library visitors, particularly those who may be suffering from memory loss or feeling lonely. The Eugene Public Library in Oregon is home to three robot cats named Bandit, Percival, and Mr. Pickles, and they have captured the hearts of both staff and patrons.

According to Kate Berry, one of the library’s adult services supervisors, the robot cats are not limited to a specific demographic. Anyone can check them out and enjoy their company. These robotic felines purr and meow, providing a sense of joy and fun for those who interact with them. The library staff has been so moved by the positive impact of the robot cats that they even purchased a couple for themselves.

Heather Sears, the library’s children’s services supervisor, explained that there is research suggesting that the sound of cats purring is therapeutic. To create a peaceful environment, one of the robot cats is placed in a quiet room where staff members can spend time with it and find solace during stressful moments. Visitors to the library can also spend time with the robot cats, brushing them and treating them as if they were real pets. Some people even check them out and take them home, just like borrowing a book.

This phenomenon is not limited to the Eugene Public Library. Other libraries around the country have embraced the idea of robotic pets as well. The Manistee County Library in Michigan offers a variety of robotic pets, including cats, dogs, and even a bird. These lifelike companions have realistic features, respond to touch, purr, and warm up when held. The Hastings Public Library, also in Michigan, is set to introduce a robotic cat in January 2024.

For those interested in borrowing a robot cat from their local library, there are some guidelines to follow. The Reading Public Library in Massachusetts, for example, outlines the behaviors of their robot cat, including purring when petted and rolling over for belly rubs. However, it’s important to note that there is a replacement cost of $150 for the robotic cat, and late returns may incur a fee of $5 per day. These robot cats are available for checkout to patrons aged 18 and older.

The presence of robot cats in libraries is a heartwarming development. They provide comfort, companionship, and a sense of joy to those who interact with them. Libraries have become havens for these lifelike feline companions, offering a unique and therapeutic experience for visitors. As technology continues to advance, it’s fascinating to see how these robot cats are making a positive impact on people’s lives.
